kurt.riley+praxis Enter a New Era With FTR SHK
ITHACA, New York
27 October 2019
Kurt Riley, the musician known across Central New York for his high-concept “metapop” and theatrical performances, is entering a new chapter with the single FTR SHK (pronounced “future shock”).
Premiering October 30th on New Vine Records, FTR SHK is the first release in Riley’s new Chrome Empire phase – a vision of the world to come. To reflect this leap forward, Riley and his band have rebranded as kurt.riley+praxis. Addressing environmental devastation, human/machine relationships, the growth of megacities, and the birth of AI, kurt.riley+praxis’ Chrome Empire phase will see the artist release 10 singles with partner label New Vine Records through 2021, in lieu of a traditional album. Riley’s colorful career includes records produced by Beyoncé/FKA Twigs/Run The Jewels collaborator BOOTS and Grammy Award- winning engineer Will Russell. He has appeared at the Ithaca Festival, the CFCU Summer Concert Series, Music Is Art Buffalo, and at The Center for the Arts of Homer. The recipient of a grant from the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County, NY, Riley has been named one of the best live performers in the region by The Ithaca Journal. Sirius/XM Radio has broadcast his music via satellite, and Riley has received airplay from terrestrial stations in Toronto, Memphis, Portland, and beyond.
